Commitment to Diver Safety

Diver safety is more than a compliance requirement—it is the foundation of everything WSSI does. Effective safety is built on a strong framework of training, reliable equipment, proven operating procedures, incident review, and accountability. 

WSSI believes that responsibility for diver safety does not end when equipment leaves our facility. It continues with ongoing research, testing, evaluation, and improvement. Our harness designs, certifications, and product development programs are driven by anatomical research, advanced materials analysis, independent testing, and long-term field data collection. This evidence-based approach allows us to continuously refine our equipment and ensure diver safety in real-world conditions.

Active Research
WSSI’s Deluxe Harness is currently part of a multi-year research program in Quebec, where it is being evaluated alongside other commercially available dive harnesses that meet established safety standards. The findings from this independent research will help guide future product enhancements and further strengthen the safety and performance of our equipment.

Our core harness design traces its origins to Custom Dive Harness’ original concept, providing a unique advantage through years of accumulated field experience. This legacy gives us access to decades of operational data and equipment performance records gathered in the demanding environments of commercial underwater work. By combining proven design principles with ongoing scientific research and testing, WSSI strives to advance diver safety and equipment reliability for the professional diving industry.

Contributing to Our Harness Research
We are actively seeking retired and in-service harnesses to support our ongoing research into long-term equipment performance and safety!

If you have old harnesses that you would be willing to contribute, we will welcome the opportunity to include them in our testing program. All submitted harnesses will undergo independent third-party destructive testing, including material strength and overall structural integrity.

As this testing process permanently damages the equipment, harnesses will not be returned. Each harness is catalogued, labelled, and preserved as part of our growing research collection. WSSI will cover all associated shipping and testing costs. We recognize that not all of Dorian’s harnesses.

To ensure the validity of the testing, we would also appreciate as much background information as possible, including:

• Year of purchase or approximate age
• Estimated number of dives completed
• Primary operating environment (salt water, fresh water, contaminated water, etc).
• Storage conditions (wet, dry, indoors, outdoors, etc)
• Inspection and maintenance records
• Any repairs, modifications, or replaced parts
• Any known incidents, failures, or unusual wear patterns

Our goal is to replace arbitrary expiration dates with data-driven service life guidelines for our commercial dive harnesses. We aim to combine real-world usage information with independent testing to determine when a harness is no longer safe or compliant with required standards. As this research continues to develop, there is potential to expand testing to include other CSA-compliant dive harnesses under the same independent destruction process.
